The Halifax Ballet Theatre

We are proud to bring you news and ideas from our organization. Since its inception in 1980, the Halifax Ballet Theatre's mandate has been to offer ballet training of the highest calibre. Former students have gone on to further training at The National Ballet School, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, The School of American Ballet, L'École Supérieure de Dance du Québec, The Joffrey Ballet School, and other institutions of national and international standing. Former students of the Halifax Ballet Theatre are performing, or have performed, in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.



Artistic Director Clare Bader & the Halifax Ballet Theatre

A native of Dartmouth, N.S., Ms Bader began her ballet training in Halifax, studying with David Latoff. She continued with advanced study in New York, beginning with The School of American Ballet. Among her many noted teachers in New York, and later in Europe were: George Balanchine, Muriel Stuart, Robert Joffrey, Azari Plisetski, David Howard, Joseph Albano and Tatiana Gratseva. Ms Bader’s professional career included work with among others; The New York City Opera Ballet Company,The Hartford Ballet Company, The Garden State Ballet Company and Le Ballet National de Marseilles (directed by Roland Petit).






The Dance Community

Halifax Ballet Theatre is an active contributor to the dance community in Halifax, making its studios available to young dancer/choreographers such as Sally Morgan, Sara Coffin, and other community-based groups like the North End Dance Co-op.

The Halifax Ballet Theatre offers classes at every level, from pre-school to adult.

  • Kinderdance:for pre-school children ages 4-6.
  • Pre-Ballet: Introducing children ages 7-9 to ballet.
  • Ballet I-IV: general division for students ages 9-17
  • Intensive I-IV: Pre-Professional Training for students seriously pursuing dance, ages 7-18
  • Adult Ballet
  • Intermediate Modern
  • Pilates
