Halifax Ballet Theatre is committed to establishing a professional ballet company of the highest calibre. The Halifax Ballet Theatre believes that the same standard of training that applies to a prospective professional dancer should apply to all students. To this end, the school follows the teaching and traditions of the great masters of ballet.

  • Small classes allow more attention to individual students
  • The eclectic training which students of our school receive is intended to give them the background necessary to become members of our future company or other already established companies
  • As performance in an integral part of dance education our students perform annually.
  • Halifax Ballet Theatre intends to continue it’s history of bringing distinguished artists and teachers to Halifax for the benefit of our students and the community.
An education in dance is priceless.

While not all our students will go on to pursue a career in dance, the discipline they acquire in classical ballet training helps them excel in other areas and gives them a life long appreciation of the arts.

The Halifax Ballet Theatre offers classes at every level, from pre-school to adult.
  • Kinderdance: Creative movement classes based in classical ballet for pre-school children ages 4-6. Offered at three levels based on age.
  • Pre-Ballet: Introducing children ages 7-9 to ballet. Offered at two levels.
  • Ballet I-IV: general division for students ages 9-17 *
  • Intensive I-IV: Pre-Professional Training Program for serious students, ages 7-19
  • Adult Ballet: Beginner (two levels), Intermediate and Advanced *
* some cross over between higher levels in Ballet and Intensive

In addition to our Pre-Professional Training Program we are offering a work study program for two graduates of recognized dance schools. These individuals will continue their training with our faculty as well as assisting with the teaching of younger students. These trainees will form the seed for the Halifax Ballet Theatre’s performing company.

This year we are introducing a number of new programs including:
